Rooms of the Heart

In one of the first visions that I remember, years ago, the Lord took me on a walk through my own heart. We were in a long, clean hallway filled with doors. He stopped at one of them and reached his hand toward the doorknob but didn’t open the door. He looked at me as if to ask my permission.

I didn’t know what would be there and I was afraid at first so I hesitated. His eyes were bright and expectant, patient and hopeful. So I nodded at him that it was okay.

When he opened the door, there were scary things inside, shadows of bad memories and feelings which immediately swirled into a dark cloud and then flew out the door past us and fled from His presence.

Looking inside this room in my heart, it was clean now with bright white floors and walls. On the other side of the room was another door. This time the Lord walked right in and opened the door. We walked past it into a scene from my childhood home. Outside the house was my mom’s little flower garden that I had completely forgotten about. The flowers were so real to me, bright and alive. It seemed as if I could smell them. I even watched a bee flying from flower to flower.

The way we see and think about the past can be clouded with dark thoughts and filled with pain. Our hearts have many chambers and many of them are locked up tight. The joy in that one little memory, buried behind locked doors, can fill your life and restore who God intends you to be. So be brave dear friend. The Lord is with you. He loves you perfectly and as you spend time with Him, you will overcome your fears. There are many treasures inside of you, waiting for God to reveal them to you.

Prayer -

Today, dear God, please help me to be brave and allow you in to open the doors of my heart. You came to proclaim liberty to the captives. Please proclaim it over me. Help me see what I haven’t been able to. Restore my heart and remove the things I’ve held onto. That way I can have a truly abundant life with you. Thank you. Amen.
